Working Tests are retrieving competitions where dogs and handlers are assessed on cooperation, hunting skills, and obedience. The goal is to place in the top 5.

Test Format

  • Each test consists of 5-6 exercises (stations) – double stations will occur.
  • Each station can award up to 20 points.
  • 500 g canvas dummies are used in all classes.

Task Examples

  • Marking ability
  • Independent searching
  • Game-finding skills
  • Work in and across water
  • Steadiness and perseverance
  • Heelwork
  • Correct dummy handling
  • Willingness and ability to cooperate with the handler

The level of difficulty depends on the class. Foreign dogs may compete at the same level at which they have been awarded prizes in their home country. If the trials are not comparable, the DRK Field Trial Committee will assess the qualification.
Documentation of achieved results must be sent to: bmj@d-r-klub.dk

WT-Beginner

This class evaluates the dog’s natural hunting talent. The focus is on potential rather than training level. Retrieves must not be too long, and the exercises should be manageable, although water and cover may be included.

Eligibility

  • Minimum 12 months old on the day of the test.
  • Passed a Qualifying Obedience Tests or an equivalent approved obedience test.

WT-Novice

This class evaluates the trained hunting dog. Greater emphasis is placed on obedience and cooperation. Walk-up and directional work may be included. The terrain can involve woodland, reeds, and water.

Eligibility

Minimum 20 months old on the day of the test, and one of the following:

  • Passed WT-Beginner.
  • “Excellent” in DRK-Debutant Test.
  • 1st prize in Markprøve B Beginner class (Markprøve B Begynder).
  • Equivalent result from a foreign test.

Exception for younger dogs (under 20 months)

Participation is allowed with one of the following:

  • 2 × passed WT-Beginner.
  • 2 × “Excellent” in DRK-Beginner Test.
  • 2 × 1st prize in Markprøve B Beginner class (Markprøve B Brgynder).
  • A combination of the above or equivalent results.

WT-Open

This class is for experienced working dogs. The level of difficulty is higher than in Novice, and tasks are performed under more realistic hunting conditions. The increased challenge lies in the variation, not just the distance.

Eligibility

One of the following combinations:

  • 2 × awarded “Passed” in WT-Novice.
  • 2 × “Excellent” in Mock Trial.
  • “Excellent” in DRK Novice Cold Game Test + 1st prize in Markprøve B Open class (Markprøve B Åben).
  • “Excellent” in DRK Novice Cold Game Test + “Excellent” in MT-Novice.
  • “Excellent” in DRK Novice Cold Game Test + awarded “Passed” in WT-Novice.
  • “Excellent” in Markprøve Open Class or 1st prize in Open Class A (before 2023).
  • “Excellent” in MT-Novice + awarded “Passed” in WT-Novice.
  • Or an equivalent foreign result.

The test area will be the Enebær Odde peninsula, located 9 km from Hasmark Strand Camping. We have been granted exclusive access to this fantastic hunting area, which is surrounded by sea and fjord.
